Love, SErve, and Share

It is our mission at Mt. Elon Baptist Church to Love, Serve, and Share. This “goal” of ours stems exclusively from the words of Jesus Christ found in God's Holy Word, the Bible.

Love

In the books of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, we find the account where Jesus was asked, "what is the greatest commandment?" This sounds like a really good question to ask, but those asking weren't trying to gain knowledge, they were trying to make Jesus look like He didn't know what He was talking about. It was from this question that we, followers of Christ, get the greatest commandment and the 2nd greatest commandment when Jesus responded, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, your soul, your mind, and your strength and secondly, love your neighbor as you love yourself."

So, at Mt. Elon we believe that the sole purpose for existence on this earth is to 1st love God and to 2nd love the people that He created.

Matthew 22:37-40, Mark 12:30-31, Luke 10:27

Serve

You may ask, "how does someone show that they love God and people." We believe that happens in two ways, the first of which is to serve God and serve people. Jesus' teachings can sometimes be confusing, for example: "the greatest will become the least and the least will become the greatest."

In Mark 10 we see Jesus speaking on servanthood and He says, "whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be a slave to all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life—a ransom for many.”

This is why at Mt. Elon we believe that following Christ in full obedience and helping family, friends, and YES even our enemies, is not just an inspirational quote, but a calling to live by.

share

The second way we believe that we love God and people is by sharing Jesus with those near and far. Jesus taught the Greatest Commandment was to love God and people and He also delivered the Great Commission in Matthew 28, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

To accomplish our goal of making disciples of Jesus Christ we believe we have to live Christ-centered, our teaching has to be Bible-based, we do life together as Christians and love on our neighbors.
